In 1971, at the age of 18, I shot and killed an innocent man in an effort to obtain drugs. I was convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to life without parole eligibility.
I will never be able to return life to this man and my responsibility for his death can never be excused. I will never be able to erase his family's pain or replace society's loss in the early, and tragic death of this man. What I can do is help by giving myself to any young person whose journey may be leading them down a similar path. I didn't plan to kill anyone, but I did. and I take full responsibility for my crime. I have received acclamation for my work with youth programs. Through my writings in numerous publications, I have continued to stay involved by making positive contributions to society. I have made considerable efforts to transform myself from the violent, reckless young man of 1971 to the remorseful, caring individual of today.
